How We Help
IMPSS provides a range of culturally respectful services to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities affected by missing persons.
Support for Families
Compassionate, culturally respectful support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families affected by missing persons. We listen, provide information about available resources and walk alongside families during difficult times.
Advocacy and Awareness
Raising public awareness of Indigenous missing persons matters. We work to ensure these matters receive visibility, dignity and community attention through social media, media engagement and public advocacy.
Referrals and Information
Connecting families with relevant services, support agencies, counselling, legal information and other resources. We help families navigate complex systems with cultural sensitivity.
Volunteer Coordination
Recruiting, training and coordinating volunteers who want to support families and communities affected by missing persons. Volunteers assist with awareness campaigns, community events and approved search support.
Community Education
Providing information and education to communities about missing persons reporting, family support, safety planning and the work of IMPSS.
Collaboration with Agencies
Working constructively with police, government agencies, service providers, community organisations and other stakeholders to support families and improve responses to Indigenous missing persons matters.
Media and Public Awareness
Supporting families who wish to raise public awareness about their missing loved ones through media channels, social media campaigns and community networks — always with family consent and cultural guidance.
Culturally Respectful Search Support
Where appropriate, lawful and safe, helping coordinate volunteer and specialist search support in consultation with families, police and relevant authorities. All search activities are conducted under strict safety, legal and ethical guidelines.
Important Disclaimer
IMPSS does not replace police, emergency services, legal advice, counselling services or government agencies. We work to support families and communities and encourage all missing persons matters to be reported to police. If someone is in immediate danger, call 000.
